We compare your savings, borrowing and ISAs with official ONS figures for your age group and for Britain as a whole.

How Britain actually saves

Four in ten 25 to 34 year olds have £500 or less, once borrowing is counted.

Savings and investments minus non-mortgage debt, by age, from the ONS Wealth and Assets Survey (2020 to 2022). It is the same data we use to rank you. Where do you think you sit?

Out of every 100 people aged 25 to 34:

  • 40 have £500 or less, or are in debt
  • 27 have £500 to £12,500
  • 18 have £12,500 to £50,000
  • 15 have £50,000 or more

Duncan Dibble

Your presenter

Duncan doesn’t just explain investing. He does it in front of you.

Duncan has been investing for 25 years, long enough to have made money, lost money and learned what actually works, and he has spent around 15 years running businesses. He writes about his own investing for The Investors Centre, results included, and writes The Bull’s Eye every week.

In the free workshop he opens an account, chooses one fund and presses Buy on screen, explaining every step in plain English. It’s 45 minutes, then questions: answered live at 1pm, and by email if you watch the recording at 7pm.

Who we are

Three UK investors who got tired of jargon and hidden fees.

We run The Investors Centre, a UK site that opens real accounts with real money and writes up what it finds. Around 30,000 people use it every month. How Britain Saves came out of a question we kept being asked: "am I doing alright for my age?" Nobody could answer it without a spreadsheet, so we built this.

We make money when people open accounts through our links and from our education. Featured placements are paid for and labelled. None of that changes your result, and you can use every part of this without opening anything.

Is it really free?

Yes. Nothing to pay and no card details. We ask for an email address at the end because that is where your results go. The newsletter is your choice: “Just send my results” sends your results and nothing else. You can ask us to delete your details any time.

How do you work out my ranking?

We estimate your net financial wealth from your bands (savings plus investments, minus borrowing) and place it against the ONS Wealth and Assets Survey for your age group and for Britain as a whole. It leaves out property and pensions, it is an estimate from bands rather than an exact figure, and it is context, not a grade.

Will it tell me what to invest in?

No. It doesn’t pick investments or say how much to invest. The page after the check shows a paid offer from a partner platform, chosen from one answer: whether you already have a stocks & shares ISA, and you may get up to two emails about it if you ask for The Bull’s Eye. It isn’t a recommendation. For personal advice you need a regulated adviser.

What’s the free workshop?

A 45-minute session where Duncan opens an account, chooses one fund and presses Buy on screen, explaining each step in plain English, then answers questions. It runs live at 1pm UK and the recording plays at 7pm, when questions go to Duncan by email. If you can’t make either, the recording arrives the next morning. See the next dates.

What happens to my answers?

They stay in this browser tab for an hour, so you can go back and change one. When you enter your email at the end, your answer bands (never exact balances) are stored with it so we can send your results. Your answers never go to the platforms or to any advertiser. Full privacy note.

What if I’m struggling with bills right now?

Then we leave platform offers out altogether, on the page and in the emails, and point you to MoneyHelper and StepChange instead. Both are free, and both are more useful than anything we sell.
